The School of Winds and Waves—founded by artist and theater maker Jimmy Grima—is dedicated to cultural techniques of the wilderness. With an eye on small gestures, useful tricks, and small hacks, the recently founded school teaches how to handle things of nature with childlike curiosity. Something between a scout course and a school of life, with a healthy dose of longing for the simpler things and the feeling of endless summer days, the School of Wind and Waves is an artistic project that uses memories and experiences to carefully approach the wilderness with the creatures and things that inhabit it. The schools’ second contribution to V/A which is split up in two parts illustrates how migratory songbirds might be trapped—as it’s done traditionally by generations of men on Malta. Here’s the first part.
